Wave's Team Approach Extends Winning Streak to Nine

January 10, 2013 (Milwaukee, WI) - The Milwaukee Wave extended their winning streak to nine games defeating the Missouri Comets 18-6 at the Independence Center and improving their record to 10-2. The Wave's Marcelo Fontana, Luan Oliveira and Josh Rife lead the Wave with two goals each.

The Wave's Rife struck first on a power play. Fontana added a goal scoring on a rebound giving the Wave a 4-0 lead. The Wave would take this lead into the locker room, as the second quarter was a defensive battle where neither team scored.

The Wave come out aggressive in the third quarter as Luan Oliveira gave the Wave a 6-0 lead with a great low show to the left corner. Rife recorded his second goal of the game on a power play making it 8-0. Late in the third quarter Bryan Alvarez got the Comets on the board cutting the Wave's lead to 8-2. Joe Hammes struck quickly in the fourth quarter off a restart, which increased the Wave's lead to 10-2. Nick Perera blasted a 3-point goal opening up the game. Oliveira scored his second goal, a 3-point into an empty net as the Comets had a 6th attacker in. The Wave added another goal against the sixth attacker on Fontana's second goal of the night. Alvarez continued to battle scoring his second goal. The Comets capitalized on a power play at the end of the game however the Wave won 18-6.

The Wave return home on Saturday, January 12th at 4:00 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Arena to take on the Blast. The Wave currently sit one game behind the Blast in the MISL standings.

The Milwaukee Wave will also induct its 2013 Wave Hall of Fame at the January 12th game. Former Wave players Jimmy Banks and Ricky Mobley along with Wave fan and Dawn Urban will be honored. Special Olympics Wisconsin (http://www.specialolympicswisconsin.org/) is the BMO Harris Bank Jersey Program charity for the game. The first 5,000 fans will receive a team picture card courtesy of Yankee Hill. Parade of Champions, along with a High School All-Star game will also take place after the game.
