Wave's Dusosky Announces Retirement
November 2, 2011 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) - After 16 years in the league, 10 of those coming with the Wave, indoor soccer stalwart has Troy Dusosky announced his retirement.
The 35-year-old Dusosky has been an institution during his decade in Milwaukee, with his name featuring in top-10 list after top-10 list in Wave history. He is 10th in games played (257), 9th in assists (92), 7th in 3-point goals (16), 6th in blocks (320) and 1st in penalty minutes (185). He was also close to the top-ten for goals as well as points scored.
With three all-pro selections (2001-02, 2002-03, 2008-09), three championships (1998, 1999, 2011) and four All-Star nominations (2002, 2003, 2004, 2006), Dusosky proved he was one of the best defenders during the past decade.
"It is always a sad day when one of your long time veterans announces their retirement," stated the Milwaukee Wave's Head Coach, Keith Tozer. "Troy has had an outstanding career in the MISL and most importantly in a Wave uniform. Troy has been considered one of the top defenders in the MISL for the past decade bringing passion, desire and fight to each and every practice and game. He was a team leader as our captain both on the field and off. Troy joins a very long list of Wave veterans who I have been very proud and privileged to coach. All of us wish him the very best and we thank him for all that he did. He will be missed."
Born in Anoka, Minnesota, Dusosky broke into the league in 1995 with the Cleveland Crunch when he was 19. After three seasons where he scored 28 combined points, Dusosky had a breakout campaign, playing in 38 games and tallying up 43 points and 59 blocks.
In 2001, after six seasons in Cleveland, Dusosky joined his brother Todd in Milwaukee via trade, quickly becoming an integral part of coach Tozer's potent team.
The Wave would reach the finals in Dusosky's first three seasons but failed to bring home the trophy each of those times. That spell would be broken in the 2004-05 campaign, but Dusosky would be forced to watch from the bench as he was suffering from a season ending injury with a torn ACL.
He finally reached the pinnacle with Milwaukee last season as the Wave stormed through the regular season, surviving Missouri's attempt to thwart them in the semifinals, and beating Baltimore for the MISL championship.
His career has taken him beyond the confines of the boards as well. Dusosky scored two goals for the United States National Futsal team at the 2007 Pan-American games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on its way to a 5th place finish.
Closer to home, Dusosky has given back to the community he now calls home through his coaching and philanthropic giving.
"Thank you to the fans, the great people of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Wave," Troy Dusosky said. "My job for the last 16 years has been one of the best jobs ever. It feels good to go out on top as a Champion. It will be exciting to watch the Wave defends its title this season."
Dusosky will be present at the 2011 Championship Ring Ceremony and will be honored at an upcoming game this season. The Wave will look to defend its title on Nov. 13 against Wichita at the U.S. Cellular Arena. More announcements on player signing will be made as the week progresses.
