Milwaukee Wave News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) -- The Milwaukee Waves balanced team scoring approach proved enough for the Wave to hold onto the victory over the Wichita Wings. Six players scored for the Wave while the defensive held the Wings scoreless in three quarters giving the Wave just enough for a 13-10 win over the Wings. The Milwaukee Wave remain undefeated with a 4-0 record.
The first quarter was an intense, evenly matched, struggle filled with fouls and penalty cards. The Milwaukee Wave received 3 fouls and 2 cards, while the Wings had 2 fouls and 1 card. The only scoring of the quarter was done by Ian Bennett's 3 point goal with an assist from Joe Hammes. The Wave applied offensive pressure early in the 2nd Quarter scoring 3 goals in 54 seconds. First, Marcio Leite chipped a shot over the head of the Wings goalkeeper, Sanaldo Carvalho. Hewerton scored quickly after a crisp, cross field pass by Josh Rife. J.P.Rodrigues finished a pass from Bennett with a flying header over the Wings goalkeeper into the back of the net giving the Wave a 9-0 lead. The Wave continued to move the ball nicely with Evan McNeley capitalizing on a Greg Howes pass making it 11-0. The Wave's defensive held the Wings scoreless the entire half.
The Wave continued their stifling defense lead by goalkeeper, Nick Vorberg, in the third quarter holding the Wings scoreless. The Wave added another goal by Rodrigues ending the third quarter with a score of 13-0.
The Wings continued to battle and got on the board early in the fourth quarter with a goal by Bryan Perez which was quickly followed by another Wings goal by Jamar Beasley. The fouls and penalties continued throughout the second half of play by both teams. Due to Wings penalties, the Wave was up two men yet were unable to net a goal. The Wings continued to plug away at the Wave's lead when they added a sixth attacker. Goals were scored by the Wing's Frederico Moojen, Perez, and Carlos Farias bringing the Wings to within 3 points at 13-10. Although the Wings defense held the Wave scoreless in the second half, the Wave were able to pull out a 13-10 victory.
