Milwaukee Wave News Release
The playoff bound Milwaukee Wave finish up their regular season with a visit from the Florida Tropics, a team they have never played before. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, March 3rd, 6:05pm CST from UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
"We want to put on a good show in front of our fans for the last regular season game," said Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "I think Florida is a great opponent with the great offense they play. I would say they are one of the better offensive teams in the league. With that, the team and I agreed that one area that we need more improvement in is defense. So, it will be good to play against this great offensive team."
The Florida Tropics finished 3rd in the eastern division in their inaugural 16-17 season and have been eliminated from the 17-18 MASL postseason. There are a couple familiar faces on the Tropics team in former Wave goalkeeper #13 Marcel Feenstra and midfielder #22 Anthony Arico. They are led by forward #11 Ricardo De Queiroz Diegues, who leads the Tropics in points with 42 this season and player / assistant coach, #10 Freddy Moojen who has 31 points.
"We know teams love to come to Milwaukee and play in our arena, because it's an exciting place to play," said Milwaukee Wave forward #14 Daniel Mattos. "I've been on the other side, so I know they're going to bring their best. Florida has a lot of skillful players and Brazilians with great offense. We're not so sure why they haven't made the playoffs. I know they struggle defensively a little bit, so hopefully we can tune up our defensive. We know they're going to bring their A game."
Meanwhile, the MASL Central Division Champion Milwaukee Wave have their eyes on the postseason despite a few injuries coming down the homestretch.
"Some players that haven't gotten opportunities to play in the season are going to get that on Saturday and we're all excited to see what they're going to do." said Oliviero. "The players that have been in the lineup want to do well and will set their teammates up for success. We're going to try some things, let some of our guys get some rest and continue to get ready for the playoffs next week."
