Last Week's Outings:
BALTIMORE (Jan. 25, 2008) -- A three-week, five-game, 8,500-mile road trip ended on a sour note for the Milwaukee Wave, who lost 12-7 to the Baltimore Blast on Friday.
Milwaukee (11-6) still ended the trip with a 3-2 record, and returns to the U.S. Cellular Arena on Sunday to face Chicago at 2 p.m. But it was not the way the Wave wanted to conclude their odyssey.
Warren Ukah's goal pulled the Wave to a 5-all tie midway through the third quarter, and they began to seize some momentum after being on their heels most of the night. Baltimore, however, scored three times in the last 5:08 of the quarter. P.J. Wakefield's second 3-pointer of the game, a power play goal with 26 seconds left, made it 12-5 Baltimore.
Marcio Leite's second goal of the night made it 12-7 with 9:38 to go, but the Wave couldn't get many opportunities despite playing with a sixth attacker for the final six minutes.
Greg Howes had scored 23 points in his last three games but was held without a point by the Blast, ending his scoring streak this year at 15 games. He remains the league leader with 69 points. As a team the Wave generated little offense, forcing Blast keeper Sagu to make only nine saves. Marcio Leite scored a 3-pointer and 2-pointer for the Wave.
The Wave had beaten Orlando, Monterrey and California on the road trip, prior to a 15-14 loss last Friday at Detroit. Eight of their final 13 games are at home, beginning Sunday against the Storm (11-5), who eased into a first place tie with a 9-2 win over Detroit (11-5) on Friday. The Wave are third, a half-game out.
DETROIT (Jan. 27, 2008) - Deco, Guiliano Oliviero and MISL scoring leader Greg Howes each scored two goals as the Milwaukee Wave poured it on late and defeated the Chicago Storm 19-9 on Sunday afternoon at the U.S. Cellular Arena.
The Wave (12-6) took a 12-2 lead with two goals in the first 90 seconds of the second half. Marcio Leite slammed in a power play goal and then Guiliano Oliviero poked a looping shot over Jim Larkin on a rebound of Brett Wiesner's shot. Milwaukee seemed to be in control at that point, but the Storm (11-6) used their speed and aggressiveness to turn the game around.
Two goals late in the third quarter closed the gap, then Fabinho cracked a long 3-pointer with 9:47 to make it 12-9 and put the game in doubt.
But it took just nine seconds for the Wave to regain some space. Warren Ukah dug out a ball along the corner boards and away from Storm goalkeeper Jim Larkin. Wiesner ran onto it in the penalty area and buried the shot for a 14-9 advantage.
"Our ball possession was gone, it seemed like they had the momentum," said Wave head coach Keith Tozer. "It was a big answer for their goals, I thought it was huge."
Howes, who now has 74 points, slammed the door with 4:50 to go off a corner kick. Marcelo Fontana rolled him the ball outside the 3-point arc, and his right-footed rocket beat Larkin to his left. Fontana closed the scoring on an assist from Oliviero, who reached 902 career points with his five-point night.
Deco scored two goals in the first quarter and Joe Hammes had three assists in the first half as the Wave dominated most of that action.
With the victory, the Wave own the season tiebreaker with the Storm, based on point differential.
"This game was like two for us, and we played one of our best games of the year," Tozer said. "That was big.
NASH, STOUDEMIRE SIGN THE WAVE OF KINDNESS HARLEY
MILWAUKEE (Jan. 23, 2008) -- Steve Nash, a two-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player, and Phoenix Suns teammate Amare Stoudemire added their signatures to the Milwaukee Wave of Kindness Harley-Davidson on Tuesday night.

Raffle tickets to win the bike are $5 for six tickets or $1 each, and can be purchased at www.milwaukeewave.com or at any Wave game. Proceeds benefit Wave of Kindness, which is the charity arm of the Milwaukee Wave dedicated to developing soccer among low-income and inner-city youth. The bike will be awarded on April 26 at the MISL Championship Game in Milwaukee.
Nash (above) is a five-time All-Star who won the NBA's MVP award in 2005-06 and 2006-07. Stoudemire (right) was the 2002-03 NBA Rookie of the Year and, at 25, is already a two-time All-Star.
Their signatures join those of Pele, Ryan Braun, Bonnie Blair, Fuzzy Thurston and others on this custom-painted 2008 Sportster XL 883. See the bike at every Wave home game, including this Sunday's 2 p.m. contest against Chicago. Other public appearances will be announced as they are confirmed.
