Last Week's Outings: Wave 9, Storm 10

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL (Nov. 10, 2007) -- Chile Farias and Matthew Stewart each scored a pair of goals to lead the Chicago Storm over the Milwaukee Wave 10-9 Saturday night at the Sears Centre.

Milwaukee (1-2) brought on Joe Hammes as the sixth attacker with 2:30 left, when the Wave had a free kick opportunity deep in Storm territory. But on the play, Hammes was called for his fourth foul of the half, attempting to free up Greg Howes. The resulting 2-minute penalty allowed the Storm to kill off all but the game's final 30 seconds.

Howes scored twice for the Wave, who entered the fourth quarter with a 9-8 lead. Howes also had a breakaway opportunity late, just as the Hammes penalty expired, but his shot from the right point slid just wide of the left post.

The Wave return to the U.S. Cellular Arena on Saturday to host the Orlando Sharks at 6 p.m. It's the third annual Spirit Competition, and championship youth soccer teams will be able to meet Olympic gold medalist and Wisconsin native Bonnie Blair in the pregame "Parade of Champions." Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or by calling the Wave at (414) 224-9283.

Bonnie Blair greets the "Tournament of Champions": A six-time Olympic medalist in speed skating, Blair is the most decorated Winter Olympian in our nation's history. She has been honored as Sports Illustrated's Sportswoman of the Year, the Sullivan Award winner as the nation's top amateur athlete, and is in the United States Olympic Committee's Hall of Fame.

Blair will join the Milwaukee Wave in celebrating the "Tournament of Champions" by presenting medals to local championship teams before this Saturday's game against the Orlando Sharks. All championship teams, as well as Blair, will be involved in a pre-game "Parade of Champions."

Teams interested in participating in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity should call (414) 224-9283.
