Milwaukee Wave News Release

MILWAUKEE (Friday, February 18, 2005) – The Milwaukee Wave, of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), announced today that a three-year contract has been signed by forward Hewerton Moreira, known as Hewerton, (pronounced ever-ton.) Hewerton previously had a 15-day/5 game contract with the Wave, and is now a member of the team through the 2006-07 campaign.

"Hewerton's play at the target position the last two games has been wonderful," said head coach Keith Tozer. "He plays very well with his back to the goal, is very strong and shows for the ball, which is extremely important for his position. We believe he has great potential now and for the future."

Originally from Santos, Brazil, Hewerton was selected from the San Diego Sockers in the January 5 Dispersal Draft. As the second round, 14th overall pick, the 25-year-old brings the promise of great potential during his rookie season. Drafted as a target player from San Diego, Hewerton played in 10 games, scoring five goals and one assist, for six points in 2004. Wearing number 26, he collected his first goal of the season in a win against the Baltimore Blast, February 13.

Hewerton lists playing with the Brazilian National Team as one of his favorite moments in his soccer career, but is already making memories with the Wave. Fans who witnessed Hewerton's first goal as a member of the Wave also saw the passion this young player displays when he did a back flip on the field.

"It was a thrill scoring my first goal as a Wave player," said Hewerton. "The fans were so supportive and I fed off their excitement."

Coming up on a back-to-back weekend, the Wave will travel Saturday to St. Louis to take on the Steamers at 7 p.m. and return home on Sunday to play rival Chicago Storm at 1 p.m. Sunday is Usinger's Day with the Wave. Fans who bring in a grocery receipt showing the purchase of at least two (2) Usinger's products will receive three (3) dollars off the purchase of any price Wave ticket.
