Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (Oct. 27, 2008) -Â The Milwaukee Wave added a dynamic young defender with international experience today with the signing of J.P. Rodrigues.
Rodrigues, 24, was a member of the All-Rookie Team last year in the Major Indoor Soccer League after scoring 30 points (3 3PG, 8 2PG, 5 A) in 25 appearances with Orlando. He led the league with two shorthanded goals and also blocked 31 shots.
Rodrigues also represented Guyana this year in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying rounds. Guyana lost to Surinam in both its qualifying games.
"I'm very excited about JP joining the Milwaukee Wave," said Keith Tozer, head coach and vice president of soccer operations. "I felt in his rookie season with Orlando, he had a really good year. He adds a lot of speed and points coming out of the back, and his experience with the Guyana national team in World Cup qualifying is another benefit he is bringing to the Wave."
The Milwaukee Wave open their Silver Anniversary season at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 with a home game against the Detroit Ignition. The inaugural season of the Xtreme Soccer League features Milwaukee, Detroit, the Chicago Storm and New Jersey Ironmen playing a 20-game schedule from mid-December through April.
