New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Tuesday, October 28, 2008) - The New Jersey Ironmen continue to stock their roster with veteran talent, announcing today the addition of proven forward Carlos "Chile" Farias. The Chilean striker will put on the Maroon and Mandarin colors of the Ironmen for the first time when the second-year club hosts the Chicago Storm on Sunday, December 14, in their 2008-09 season opener at Prudential Center in Newark.

"Chile is extremely intelligent on the field, and he is a player with great vision," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi commented about the signing. "Throughout his career, he has been one of the top passers in the indoor game. He also has championship experience, which is a huge factor as we gather our squad."

One season on his championship resume was as an All-League Second Team player for then St. Louis Steamers Head Coach Namazi. The duo advanced to the 2004-05 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) championship together, and the experience is something that remains vivid in the mind of Farias.

"I know from playing with Omid in St. Louis that he is a great coach," Farias stated. "He likes to play a very defensive style of soccer, and he knows how to put together a good team. With the team he is putting together, I think we can really compete for a championship."

Farias, a native of Santiago, Chile, has played his entire professional soccer career in the United States on various levels. He was a selection of the San Jose Clash in the inaugural Major League Soccer (MLS) draft in 1996 and gained his first experience on American soil playing on the turf for the San Diego Sockers of the Continental Indoor Soccer League (CISL). Farias received CISL Rookie of the Year honors following that season before taking his indoor game east to the Harrisburg Heat of the National Professional Soccer League.

Itching for the outdoor game, Farias returned to California the next year to play for the San Diego Flash of the United Soccer Leagues (USL). He then got his second crack at the MLS when he was chosen again by the San Jose Clash, this time in the 1999 MLS Supplemental Draft. The Chilean forward played two matches for the Clash, starting one contest, before finishing the year in the USL with the Flash. Once he rejoined San Diego, Farias went on to receive All-Star accolades after knocking in 15 goals in 23 games.

After a brief stint with the Arizona Thunder of the World Indoor Soccer League, Farias played a third season with the Flash in 2000. The next year saw the playmaking striker work double-duty between the outdoor El Paso Patriots of the USL and the indoor Sockers. After being named to the All-CISL First Team that season, the veteran decided to focus entirely on the indoor game. Remaining with the Sockers as they moved to the MISL for the 2002-03 year, he turned in another brilliant season en route to being named to the All-MISL Second Team.

Farias then packed up and moved back to the East Coast the following year and won the 2003-04 MISL title as a member of the Baltimore Blast. He then started the 2004-05 season in Baltimore before finishing the season with the St. Louis Steamers. A second season with the Steamers saw he and Namazi advance to the league finals, and he finished the year with an MISL-leading 34 assists. The next stop for Farias was with the Detroit Ignition after the expansion side selected him in the 2006 MISL Expansion Draft. Once again, he would be pivotal in another team reaching the league championship as the Ignition advanced to play the eventual champion Philadelphia KiXX in the finals.

Farias spent last season with the Chicago Storm before signing with the Ironmen for the 2008-09 campaign. He commented about what he anticipates as being a very good Ironmen squad.

"Knowing that you are playing with good players will make you very excited about the season," he remarked. "Omid has always known how to get the best out of everyone, and this season shouldn't be any different."

The New Jersey Ironmen will make their 2008-09 season debut at Prudential Center on Sunday, December 14th, opening up their sophomore campaign at 4:00 p.m. against the Chicago Storm. The Ironmen provide fun and affordable family entertainment with tickets starting at only $10! Don't miss out on the action! Call 1-800-IRONMEN today!
