Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE - With a near-perfect first half, the Milwaukee Wave ended the Chicago Storm's two-game winning streak Saturday night at the Sears Centre, 15-4.
Jonathan Santos scored less than 90 seconds into the game, and the Wave (8-5) never let up. It was 7-0 after one quarter on goals by Chad Burt (3-pointer) and Travis McKenzie.
Chicago went on the man advantage early in the second period when Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg made a save with his hand outside the penalty area, forcing Troy Dusosky into the net. But he stopped Fabinho's shootout and then the defense held the Storm without a shot on goal for 3 minutes, until the Wave were able to call time out and get Vorberg back into the net.
Santos scored again for a 9-0 halftime lead, and then it was 11-0 just 95 seconds into the third quarter when Jacek Przednowek finished a feed from Marcelo Fontana.
Down 13-2, the Storm (5-9) opened the fourth quarter with Will Kletzien as the sixth attacker. It paid off with Chris Cerroni's goal with 14:26 to go, and the Storm peppered the Wave net for the next 4 minutes. But once the Wave got control of the ball, they built a possession that ended with Brett Wiesner's third goal of the season.
The Wave return to Chicago next Sunday for a 3 p.m. contest. Their next home action is at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15 against Detroit in the annual Green Jersey Game for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Olympic gymnast Chellsie Memmel will hand out medals in the pregame Parade of Champions. Call 414-224-9283 for more information.
