Detroit Ignition News Release
(Plymouth, Mich.) - The Detroit Ignition (7-5) dropped their second straight game tonight to the New Jersey Ironmen (6-7) in a sudden-death overtime at Compuware Arena. The Ignition are now a half-game behind Milwaukee for first place, and the Ironmen move within 2 games of Detroit in the standings.
Tonight's game, the fourth between the two clubs this season, was a grind-it-out, physical match from top to bottom. After a scoreless first quarter, midfielder Doug Rice put Detroit on the board 24 seconds into the second. The tally remained at 2-0 until 2:54 of the third when Lucio Gonzaga evened things up for the Ironmen.
After the teams traded goals in the third quarter, the final stanza opened with a 6-4 Detroit advantage. Evan McNeley and Adauto Neto scored two straight for the Ironmen to make it 8-6 in favor of New Jersey, but Ryan Mack tied the clubs back up at 8 to send the match into overtime. Ironmen midfielder Goran Vasic knocked in the game-winning two pointer at 9:16 of the extra period, bringing the final tally to 10-8.
The Ignition are back in action tomorrow - they face the Chicago Storm (5-9) at 4:00 pm at Sears Centre Arena.
