Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI (November 22, 2005) - Milwaukee Wave Vice President of Soccer Operations and Head Coach Keith Tozer announced today that the team has acquired goalkeeper Brian Rowland and an undisclosed amount of cash in the trade where they sent forward Aaron Susi to the California Cougars.
Rowland, a 24-year-old native of Toronto, Canada, started his career with the Baltimore Blast in 2003. In two seasons with the Blast, he appeared in 24 games (18 starts) and posted an 8-11 record with a .703 save percentage (391 shots faced, 275 saves). This season Rowland has appeared in three games (two starts) for the California Cougars. He has faced 48 shots and made 29 saves (.604 save percentage). Rowland is 0-2 with a 7.61 goals against average on the year.
"We are all excited to be able to add Brian to our goalkeeping team," Keith Tozer said. "We felt that after the retirement of Dan Green, we needed to find another goalkeeper to tandem with Nick Vorberg. Even though he's young, Brian has experience playing with the Baltimore Blast and, most recently, the California Cougars. Brian has great upside regarding his ability."
Susi was acquired by the Milwaukee Wave in the 2005 Dispersal Draft. He was Milwaukee's first pick (second round) in the draft, but didn't appear in a game with the Wave.
The Milwaukee Wave was established in 1984 as one of six charter members of the American Indoor Soccer Association (AISA). In 2001, the Wave transitioned to being a successful member of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Through the guidance of head coach Keith Tozer, the winningest coach in Wave and North American indoor soccer history, the Wave has won four league titles (1997-98, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2004-05), seven regular season championships, and has made seven championship series appearances. The Wave plays at home in the US Cellular Arena located in downtown Milwaukee.
