Wave Playoff Chances Dwindle After Tough Loss to St. Louis Friday Night

March 5, 2022 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release

The 7-time champion Milwaukee Wave lost a hard fought battle to the rival St. Louis Ambush Friday night at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.

"It's a very disappointing, frustrating loss," exclaimed Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "Let's be honest, this loss jeopardizes our playoff chances. We're in a very difficult spot now and we've probably lost Andre Hayne to an MCL injury; not the greatest timing. We just have to keep fighting with what we got, keep doing our best from here on out and we'll see what happens."

It was a back and forth, goal for goal battle a majority of the evening until the 4th quarter, when the Ambush broke away with 3 unanswered goals. Milwaukee rallied, took advantage of a late penalty kick and brought the game within one goal but it wasn't enough before time expired.

Final Score: Milwaukee Wave 8, St. Louis Ambush 9.

"We kept fighting tonight despite our injuries," said Milwaukee Wave Forward Ian Bennett. "Kudos to the Ambush on a well played game. We've got to stop making stupid mistakes and play smarter mentally, physically and emotionally. The bus ride home will be intense but we'll be all good and ready to go for Saturday night against Florida."
