MILWAUKEE (Dec. 12, 2008) - Fourteen-year indoor soccer veteran Giuliano Oliviero was named player/assistant coach for the Milwaukee Wave today, while Troy Dusosky, Marcelo Fontana and Joe Hammes were chosen as tri-captains by Head Coach Keith Tozer.

Oliviero, 34 scored his 1,000th career point last season and has notched at least 11 goals in each year of his career. He's entering the sixth year of his second stint with the Wave on the field, having played his first two professional seasons here beginning in 1995.

"It means a lot," said Oliviero, who is the director of coaching for SC Waukesha. "I've put a lot of years in, and to be able to help the new guys and contribute where coach needs me, I'm grateful for the opportunity."

Tozer said: "I felt that Giuliano had a lot of the qualities I was looking for in an assistant coach. He's organized, an experienced indoor player and he's a student of the game. I felt he would be a great choice to take over the responsibilities of an assistant coach."

Dusosky had previously shared captain's duties with the now-retired Michael King. The left-sided defender has patrolled the Wave back line for seven seasons after six years with the Cleveland Crunch. The 32-year-old Dusosky is seventh on the Wave's career blocks list with 260 and carries one of the league's best left-footed shots.

Joining him as captain of the 25th edition of the Wave are Fontana, a midfielder with seven seasons in Milwaukee; and Hammes, a defender hailing from nearby Cedarburg.

Fontana, 35, has scored at least 12 goals in each of his years in Milwaukee. With 230 games played, he's eighth on the Wave's all-time list. Hammes, 29, was a star at Marquette High School and St. Louis University. He played for the U.S. futsal team at the FIFA Futsal World Cup this summer.

"Troy has been a captain for the last 4 or 5 years with Michael King, and he's stepped up as one of the main leaders on the team," Tozer said. "I also felt that Marcelo and Joe had some great leadership qualities also. Those three guys are going to be very important in guiding this young team into the first XSL season."

The Milwaukee Wave open their Silver Anniversary season at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 with a home game against the Detroit Ignition. The inaugural season of the Xtreme Soccer League features Milwaukee, Detroit, the Chicago Storm and New Jersey Ironmen playing a 20-game schedule from mid-December through April.
