Wave maintains MISL's best record going into holiday break

(Milwaukee, WI) Milwaukee Wave players are looking forward to some well deserved time off heading into the holidays following a split of two games v. Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Eastern Division opponents this past weekend. The Wave goes into the break with an MISL best 9-4 record coming off a 6-1 win against the defending champion Baltimore Blast this past Friday (12/17) at U.S. Cellular Arena prior to a 6-3 loss to the Philadelphia Kixx on Saturday (12/18) at Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA.

The Wave's next game is Friday, December 31, 1:05 PM when it hosts the Chicago Storm in the annual New Year's Eve Day game at U.S. Cellular Arena. That's also Piggly Wiggly Family 4-Pack Day, with packages including four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas available for just $50 (must be ordered in advance through the Wave Office – call 414-224-WAVE). Other festivities include a free show by the Booze Brothers, the high energy rhythm and blues band, with the first 2500 fans receiving free Booze Brothers sunglasses.

With the Wave in the midst of its longest break between games this season (13 days), Coach Keith Tozer will be giving his team five days off (12/22-12/26) to rest up and enjoy the holidays. Following tomorrow's (12/21) 8 am workout at Uihlein Soccer Park, players will not resume practice until Monday, December 27, 10 AM at U.S. Cellular Arena.

Wave Notes: *The Wave is now 133-48 (.735) in its last 181 regular and post-season games. Milwaukee is also 187-29 (.866) in all home games (regular and post-season) since the start of the 1995-96 campaign.

*Wave Coach Keith Tozer, the winningest coach in Wave and North American indoor soccer history, currently sports a combined regular and post-season record of 568-357 (.614), including a 349-188 mark (.650) as coach of the Wave.

*Michael King's assist on 12/17 v. Bal was the 800th regular season point of his 12-year Wave career. King is the leading scorer in Wave history (508 goals + 292 assists = 800 points) and the sixth leading scorer in North American indoor soccer history (681 goals + 385 assists = 1066 pts.)

*Greg Howes' goal on 12/17 v. Bal increased his five-year Wave / MISL career regular season total to 161. Howes is the fifth leading scorer in Wave history (161 goals + 85 assists = 246 points).

*Howes' team record consecutive games played streak ended at 170 straight (regular season and playoffs) when he missed the game on 11/19 v. Mon due to commitments with the U.S. National Futsal Team, which was participating at the FIFA World Championship in Chinese Taipei.

*Matt Schmidt has extended his Wave consecutive games played streak to 97 straight (regular season and playoffs) and his Wave / Wave United consecutive games played streak (regular season, open cup, and playoffs) to 153 straight since the start of the 2002-03 indoor season.

*Pat White's assist on 12/18 @ Phi broke a 22-game regular season scoreless streak dating back to last season.

*The Wave's "Twin Tandem" - Todd and Troy Dusosky - has now combined for 311 goals (Todd 210 + Troy 101) and 337 assists (Todd 262 + Troy 75) for 648 points (Todd 472 + Troy 176), good for sixth on the all-time indoor soccer brothers scoring list. The Dusoskys (Todd 423 + Troy 87 = 510) are also the highest scoring brother pair in Wave history ahead of the White brothers (Pat 166 + Erik 9 = 175).

Putting together one of its most dominant efforts of the season, the Wave registered a 6-1 win over the defending champion Baltimore Blast Friday night (12/17) at U.S. Cellular Arena. The Wave has now defeated the Blast two-out-of-three so far this season, with one more meeting scheduled between the clubs on April 24 in Milwaukee.

Although Baltimore struck first on a goal by P.J. Wakefield at 5:51 of the first quarter, the Blast had few scoring opportunities throughout the rest of the contest. The Wave controlled possession for most of the match as it out-shot Baltimore 42-19.

Kevin Burk scored Milwaukee's first goal at 7:55 of the first period off an assist from Joe Hammes. Angel Rivillo tallied at 9:35 to put the Wave ahead 2-1, while Johnny Torres converted on a power play from Troy Dusosky at 11:33 of the first to make it 3-1. Torres scored again early in the second quarter (3:10) to continue the Wave's scoring surge. After a scoreless third quarter, Burk registered his second goal at 1:21 of the fourth period to make it 5-1. Greg Howes capped off the scoring with blast just outside the penalty area at 6:15 of the fourth to account for the final score.

Pat Morris scored a pair of second half goals with the latter resulting in the game-winning tally as the Philadelphia Kixx defeated the Wave 6-3 Saturday night (12/18) at the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA. Philadelphia's third straight win improve the Kixx' record to 8-5 while the Wave, which had its own two-game winning streak snapped, fell to 9-4.

Morris' first goal, off a restart pass from Goran Vasic, broke a 1-1 tie early in the third quarter (1:53). His second goal at 2:53 of the fourth period from Shawn Boney put the Kixx ahead 4-2. Drew Kopp also had a pair of goals for the Kixx, his first two of the season.

Johnny Torres, Kevin Burk, and Marcelo Fontana each scored for the Wave, with Fontana's goal coming while Milwaukee was utilizing a sixth attacker (Chris Morman) at 12:17 of the fourth quarter. Morman had initially assumed the role when goalkeeper Dan Green was issued a five minute misconduct penalty (delay of game) following Jeff Moore's goal at 4:39 of the period.
