Wave hires Mike Lafferty as new Chief Operating Officer

(Milwaukee, WI) The Milwaukee Wave, parent organization of the Wave indoor (Major Indoor Soccer League) and Wave United outdoor (A-League) professional soccer clubs announced today that it has hired Michael G. (Mike) Lafferty as Chief Operating Officer. Lafferty comes to the Wave organization following 16 years with Milwaukee based Midwest Airlines, where he has been the Director of Airport Affairs the past 10 years.

The 45 year-old Lafferty, who was born in Monroe, WI has had a lifelong interest in soccer since his formative days as a youth growing up in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Lafferty's family eventually relocated to Cinnaminson, NJ, where Mike went on to star at the local high school before receiving a soccer scholarship to attend Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT.

Upon graduating from Quinnipiac in 1980, Lafferty spent several years in the airline industry before becoming Office Services Manager for the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1987. He left the NHL to begin working with Midwest Airlines the following year.

"I've been fortunate to have spent the past 16 years working for the best airline in the world and now I've got the opportunity to work for one of the best soccer organizations in the world," said Lafferty. "I'm very excited about my new position and the challenges that lie ahead."

The Wave indoor squad recently completed its 20th season by winning its third straight MISL Regular Season Title (27-9) before advancing to the league championship series for the fifth consecutive season. Meanwhile, the Wave United outdoor squad prepares to begin its second season on Friday, May 14, 7:05 PM when it hosts the Edmonton Aviators at Uihlein Soccer Park.
