Wave Held up in Texas Thursday Night
January 26, 2024 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
After being handed a loss Tuesday night in Mexico, the 7-time champion Milwaukee Wave looked to right the ship Thursday night against the Texas Outlaws; instead the game was stolen right from under them.
Final Score: Milwaukee Wave 6, Texas Outlaws 8.
"I thought we were the better team in the first half; especially the first quarter," said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "We had the energy; we had the opportunities; we just didn't capitalize like we should have."
The Wave were dominant in the first half on both sides of the ball with goals scored from Cesar Correa and Ian Bennett. It wasn't until late in the second quarter that Texas scored their first goal; Sebastian Mendez and Vinicius Dantas kept that momentum going into the second half. In the end; 5 unanswered goals before Derek Huffman put the ball in the back of the net for Milwaukee.
"We went for it the fourth quarter with our sixth attacker," added Oliviero. "We had them (Texas) on the ropes; brought the game within a goal and just continued to make mistakes that we can't be making if we want to win a championship."
The Wave will head back to their hotel for the night before boarding a plane tomorrow / Friday morning for O'Hare; and then Sunday, the rematch with Monterrey at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
"Now it's all about recovery; physically and mentally and then getting ready for Sunday," said Oliviero. "We are really excited to host Monterrey so long as we stop making those mistakes we've made the past few games but we're going to make them (Monterrey) earn everything they get."
