Milwaukee Wave News Release
St. Louis, MO (February 12, 2005) - The Wave faced a tough task, going up against MISL co-leaders, the St. Louis Steamers, in a battle for first place. St. Louis entered the game with a perfect, 8-0 record at home this season. The Wave had the Steamers on the ropes with a 3-1 lead in the third quarter, but St. Louis responded with five unanswered goals between the third and fourth quarters to remain undefeated at home and take a one game lead in the MISL standings.
The game started with Milwaukee Wave forward Eduardo Sebrango putting gthe ave ahead with the game's first goal (the fourth time this season he scored the first goal of the game). Jamar Beasley, who scored a goal in Saturday night's All-Star Game in Milwaukee, evened the score at one with a goal at 8:44 of the first frame. From that point, the teams would go 14:32 before scoring another goal. UW-Milwaukee alum, Chad Dombrowski, ended the drought and put the Wave ahead 2-1 at 5:48 of the second quarter.
The Wave came out of the locker room with a goal 1:49 into the second half to take a two goal lead at 3-1. Defending MISL MVP, Greg Howes, was set up by the 2006 All-Star Game MVP, Todd Dusosky on the score. From that point on, the Steamers took control of the game. St. Louis scored three goals in the third quarter (Michael Apple, Sandre Naumoski and Jamar Beasley) to take a 4-3 lead into the fourth quarter. Jamar Beasley's goal to take the lead came with just 11 seconds remaining in the quarter.
The Steamers controlled the possession through much of the fourth quarter and limited the Wave's opportunities to tie the contest. Late in the game, Milwaukee brought defender Matt Schmidt on as a sixth attacker, but St. Louis All-Stars Beasley and Shaun David added two goals to close out the contest at 6-3. Jamar Beasley's goal gave him a hat-trick.
The Wave travels to California for a game against the Cougars on Friday. Kickoff will be at 9:30 p.m. (CST). Milwaukee returns home on Sunday, February 19, for a 1:05 p.m. game against the Chicago Storm. Sunday's game will honor West Allis, Wisconsin, native Chellsie Memmel.
