St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers (14-4) take over sole possession of first place in the MISL standings after defeating the Milwaukee Wave (13-5), 6-3 in front of 6,207 fans inside Savvis Center Sunday afternoon. The two teams had been tied for first place atop the MISL going into the game. The win also keeps the Steamers perfect at home with a 9-0 record and gives them two wins against one loss against the Wave.

The Wave got on the board first when Eduardo Sebrango beat keeper Brett Phillips only 1:28 into the game. Later on in the quarter, Jamar Beasley scored his first of three goals to tie it up after one quarter. Milwaukee's Chad Dombrowski scored to make the score 2-1 going in to halftime. The Wave had more scoring chances than St. Louis and held the shot advantage, 7-6 at the half.

The second half started on the wrong foot for the Steamers after Greg Howes scored a restart goal to make it 3-1 Milwaukee. But it was all Steamers from there on out. Mike Apple scored from defender Mali Walton to cut the lead to one and then Sunny Naumoski tied it up at the 9:54 mark of the third quarter. With only 12 seconds remaining in the third, Beasley scored his second to give St. Louis the lead going into the fourth. It was a lead they wouldn't give up.

Beasley completed his hat trick at the 13:19 mark of the fourth against a Wave sixth attacker. It was some insurance for St. Louis and they kept the pressure on by scoring another goal when Shaun David scored with less than a minute remaining to make the final 6-3. David followed the goal by performing a back flip to celebrate.

The Steamers now posses first place all alone for the first time this season and drop Milwaukee to second for the first time all season. St. Louis will defend first place when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the KiXX at the Wachovia Spectrum. Their next game at Savvis Center is Presidents' Day, Monday, February 20th at 4:35 pm.
