Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE â The Milwaukee Wave fell to the Philadelphia KiXX 6-3 tonight at the U.S. Cellular Arena in front of 3,816 fans. The teams scored in bunches with three goals tallied in the opening three minutes and another three collected in the final three minutes of the match. The teams will meet tomorrow night (4/9) in Philadelphia for the sixth and final meeting between the two clubs this regular season.
The Milwaukee Wave and Philadelphia KiXX started the game out with three quick scores, giving Philadelphia a 2-1 lead just three minutes into the game. The KiXX got on the board first with a goal by forward Joel Shanker past Wave keeper Nick Vorberg at the 12 second mark. Ptah Myers tallied the unassisted goal for Philadelphia at 2:37. The Wave battled back into things as Greg Howes slipped a pass across the mouth of the goal to Michael King for the score at 3:19.
After an exciting opening three minutes, the Wave and KiXX battled back-and-forth for the remainder of the first period and all of the second, making the score 2-1 KiXX heading into the intermission.
The Wave tied up the score at 2-2 at 5:43 of the third period as Giuliano Oliviero sent a low bouncer to Marcelo Fontana. Fontana was able to knock the ball up and over the head of KiXX goalkeeper Peter Pappas for the score. The Wave took the lead for the first time in the match at 7:21, as Johnny Torres was able to sneak the ball between the defense into the back of the net off the assist from Ricardinho.
Philadelphia's Pat Morris sent a rocket shot past Vorberg for the unassisted goal at 12:22 of the third to tie the score at 3-3.
The KiXX regained the lead at 4-3 at the 11:22 mark of the final period, as player/coach Don D'Ambra was able to send a header through the hands of Vorberg for the score. Milwaukee inserted Lovelace Ackah as the sixth attacker; however, Philadelphia capitalized as Pappas made a save and sent the outlet all the way into Milwaukee's empty net at the other end of the field. The goal is the second of Pappas' professional career with the KiXX; he also collected a goal on January 20, 2001 versus the Cleveland Force. Shanker added the insurance goal at 14:35 to secure a 6-3 victory for the KiXX.
* Milwaukee's defender Chris Morman recorded his 300th career block tonight.
