Milwaukee Wave News Release
NEWARK, N.J. (Jan. 11, 2009) - Wave rookie Marco Terminesi scored his fourth goal of the weekend and fellow rookie Chad Burt added his first career goal, but it was all the Wave could muster in a 14-4 loss to the New Jersey Ironmen here Sunday.
With their second consecutive loss, the Wave (3-2) dropped into a first-place tie in the Xtreme Soccer League with the Ironmen. New Jersey comes to Milwaukee on Friday for a rematch at 7 p.m.
Milwaukee, who played the previous night at home against Detroit and flew into Newark early Sunday, were within 7-4 with 11:42 remaining when Burt, a 20-year-old from St. Petersburg, Fla., took a feed from Travis MacKenzie out of the corner and beat Brett Phillips.
New Jersey scored a killer goal with 5:10 left, after the Wave turned the ball over in the attacking end. Lucio Gonzaga and Frederico Moojen got behind the Wave defense and Moojen finished the breakaway to make it 9-4. The Ironmen added goals against the sixth attacker, a 2-pointer by Chile Farias and a 3-pointer by Gonzaga.
Gonzaga wrapped up a monster 18-point weekend with a pair of 3-pointers and the assist to Moojen. Friday, he scored 11 points (2 3PG, 2 2PG, 1 A) in a 23-8 victory over Chicago.
The Wave trailed the entire game, falling behind 4-0 on goals by Rey Martinez and Sandre Naumoski.
In the second period, Jacek Przednowek drew a blue card that resulted in a shootout for the Wave. Though Giuliano Oliviero could not finish that chance, the Wave scored their third power play goal of the season when Fontana found Terminesi at the far post and he beat Phillips high. Terminesi has five goals this season and leads the Wave rookies.
