Milwaukee Wave News Release

PLYMOUTH, MI (April 4, 2008) - Detroit foiled the Milwaukee Wave's bid for an MISL regular season crown on Friday night, getting three goals from former Wave player Hewerton in a 18-11 win at Compuware Sports Arena.

Milwaukee (21-8) can still capture the crown on Saturday night with a victory over La Raza de Monterrey at U.S. Cellular Arena and a Detroit (21-8) loss at third-place Baltimore. For the fourth consecutive game, the Wave fell behind early. Hewerton opened the game with a 3-pointer and extended the lead to 5-0 before the quarter was out.

Greg Howes' spectactular 3-point volley on a second-quarter power play pulled with Wave within two points, but Milwaukee never was able to pull even. Howes added an assist on another Wave power play goal, this one by Troy Dusosky, which drew them to within 8-5 in the third period.

Detroit pulled away with a pair of goals within in a minute midway through the fourth quarter. Hewerton closed out his hat trick on a power play, and then Doug Rice finished off a rebound to make it 12-5.

With the score 14-5, Giuliano Oliviero punched in a pair of goals 28 seconds apart to make the game interesting, but the Ignition made the Wave pay for pushing forward with a pair of late scores. Howes climbed to 124 points with the goal and assist, closing in on his fourth league scoring title in five years. Michael King assisted on Oliviero's second goal for the seventh point of his 22nd and final indoor season.

The Wave's game on Saturday kicks off at 6 p.m. It's Fan Appreciation Night, sponsored by New Land Enterprises. Prizes will be given away throughout the game, and Don Jacobs Toyota sponsors the post-game autograph session with players on the field. Midwest Airlines presents Kicks for Tix, and one fan will walk out with two round-trip tickets on Midwest Airlines. Call (414) 224-9283 or visit any Ticketmaster outlet for tickets.
