Milwaukee Wave News Release

NEWARK, N.J. (Dec. 9, 2007) - Dominating from beginning to end, the Milwaukee Wave pushed their winning streak to five games on Sunday afternoon, defeating the New Jersey Ironmen 17-4 at the Prudential Center.

Milwaukee (6-2) took sole possession of second place in the MISL, and takes on first-place Chicago (6-1) in a home-and-home series this weekend, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday at the U.S. Cellular Arena. Eight different players scored the eight goals for the Wave against Tony Meola and the Ironmen (5-2), whose only two losses are to the Wave. It was 14-4 at halftime, with the key goal scored by Brookfield product Brett Wiesner. Halfway through an Ironmen power play in the second quarter, Milwaukee won possession and Coach Keith Tozer called a timeout. After the timeout, goalkeeper Nick Vorberg threw long and Anthony Maher flicked a header to the speedy Wiesner, who scored the shorthanded goal to make it 12-2. New Jersey scored seconds after the power play ended, so Wiesner's goal essentially canceled out that goal.

Greg Howes then ended the half with a score. Howes, the league's leading scorer, also had two assists.

Deco beat Meola for a 3-pointer - the first one allowed this season by the former U.S. national team keeper - in the fourth quarter for the only Wave points of the half.

Nick Vorberg improved his record to 5-2 and allowed just three goals in two victories over the weekend.

Friday's home game for the Wave is also Stock Car Night. Drivers from Slinger Speedway will be on hand, and fans can get autographs and have a photo taken with one of the cars. At halftime, drivers will take part in an on-field soccer competition against a team of fans captained by actor Mark Metcalf, known for his roles in "Animal House" and "Seinfeld."

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, or by calling (414) 224-9283. Group discounts are available.
