
Well-traveled Ironmen fall to Wave

NEWARK, NJ- The New Jersey Ironmen (5-2) returned home to Prudential Center today in their second game in consecutive days, but they saw their four-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of the visiting Milwaukee Wave (6-2) by a count of 17-4. A crowd of 4,239 greeted the Ironmen in Newark a day after they defeated the Orlando Sharks in Florida, 15-12.
Wave midfielder Jonathan Santos opened the scoring at 3:36 of the first frame when he finished off a Greg Howes assist, giving the visitors an early two-point lead. New Jersey evened the count at 2-2 when MISL assist leader Goran Vasic set up a Frederico Moojen goal, but Milwaukee midfielder Marcio Leite quickly reacquired the lead for his team, 4-2. The Wave then extended the advantage to 6-2 when Howes picked up his second assist of the evening on a Todd Dusosky tally.
In the first score of the second stanza, the Ironmen came up on the wrong side of an own goal to fall behind 8-2. Forward Anthony Maher was credited with the two points. Wave forward Warren Ukah then followed up the mishap with a tally of his own to put his club up 10-2. Milwaukee forward Brett Wiesner then hit a short-handed knock to give the Wave a double-digit lead. MISL goal leader Dan Antoniuk finally ended the New Jersey drought when he put a Lazo Alavanja assist into the back of the net with 1:48 left in the half. Howes put the difference back at ten points a mere 38 ticks later to send Milwaukee into the locker room with a 14-4 advantage.
Defenses then prevailed in a scoreless third quarter, sending the Ironmen into the final frame down by a count of 14-4.
The defensive standstill finally came to an end at 8:28 of the final period as Wave defender Deco netted a three-pointer to put up the final score, 17-4.
The Ironmen now look to regroup from the loss, but they only have short period of time to mentally put this game behind them. The team will host the defending MISL champion Philadelphia KiXX (2-7) this Friday at Prudential Center with a slated kickoff of 8:00 p.m.
