Milwaukee Wave News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) The Milwaukee Wave, parent organization of both the Wave indoor (Major Indoor Soccer League) and Wave United outdoor (A-League) teams announced today that it will hold its second European Academy in conjunction with Queens Park Rangers of the English Football Association (FA) at QPR's training grounds (Twyford) in London, England July 23-August 1, 2004. The European Academy highlights the Wave's 2004 Summer Soccer Camp schedule which includes 56 different camps in 32 locations.
Last year's (2003) inaugural European Academy featured a group of U-14 and U-16 select boys players who received extensive instruction from the QPR coaching staff as well as from Wave legend Michael King, a London native who developed his skills as a youth player in England. The group also had the opportunity to compete against QPR and other London area squads in game-like scrimmages.
"After the incredible success and experience that the kids had last year, we're hoping to expand on the popularity of the camp and accommodate more players," said Wave President / CEO Tim Krause. "We're extremely grateful for all the support QPR has put into this endeavor and we look forward to training with a club that could very well be a first division side by next season."
Said Wave Head Coach and Camp Director Keith Tozer, "We are very excited to once again to offer area youth players some of the best training in the world not to mention an experience of a lifetime."
This year's entourage to West London will once again be led by King and feature another group of U-14 and U-16 select boys players. Enrollment is limited to the first 32 players who register by June 1. The group will also convene for pre-camp training sessions at Uihlein Soccer Park (the Wave's official training facility at 7101 W. Good Hope Rd.) in Milwaukee prior to departure.
"We're looking to build off last year's inaugural European Academy success," said King. "The Wave along with our European counterparts are looking to develop and expand American youth soccer and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to coach another group of local players in the upcoming session."
