March 7, 2016 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
The Six-Time Champion Milwaukee Wave advanced to the second round of the Major Arena Soccer League Playoffs after defeating the Chicago Mustangs Sunday evening at Sears Centre.
After winning Game 1 Saturday night at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena 7-2, the Wave traveled to Chicago Sunday for Game 2 and came up short, losing to the Mustangs 7-2 forcing a 15-mintue Mini-Game Three.
GAME 1: MKE WAVE 7, CHICAGO MUSTANGS 2 - Final.
GAME 2: CHICAGO MUSTANGS 7, MKE WAVE 2 - Final.
GAME 3: CHICAGO MUSTANGS 0, MKE WAVE 2 - Final.
Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Giuliano Olivero on... Losing Game 2:
"It was really disappointing losing Game 2. The only thing that worried me was the team losing energy before the 15-minute mini-game but as it turned out the guys really show up."
What he told the after losing Game 2 and before Mini-Game 3:
"I told them we were down but not out and to go out there and play smart with high intensity and to pick and choose their moments. Our veteran players really stepped up defensively. You look a Nick Vorberg in goal, Tenzin Rampa and Jonathan Greenfield on one side and Pablo as well, they did great. On the other side of the ball you had Sean Totsch, Stuart Grable and Hans Dennisen playing in their first year and they all stepped up in that mini game. Overall, I couldn't be happier and more proud of this team!"
On Ian Bennett:
"The Mustangs keyed in on Ian during Game 2 but when it came to overtime he had just had enough. He wasn't going to be denied and that's what first class players do and that's what top player do in indoor soccer, they rise to the occasion and when the game was on the line he came up with two huge goals. I'm just really happy for him and the season he's having."
On the next home playoff game THIS FRIDAY vs. Missouri Comets:
"The biggest thing for us is to make sure we have our best legs on the playing field Friday night. We're banged up and had a few injuries in this series. If we could get some of those guys healthy, that would be great. Also, the guys that played a ton of minutes this weekend need to rest and recover. We know Missouri has some weapons but overall I think we've become better as a team and should be able to handle what they throw at us. I think it's going to be an exciting series and look forward to the fans packing Panther Arena.
