Tyler Takes Charge

Black Hawk forward Tyler Barnes matched his career-high with four points in Waterloo's 4-2 win against Tri City Friday. He was on the ice when the Hawks scored their lone goal in Lincoln Saturday. Barnes has found the score sheet at a blistering pace in October with ten points in four games. Notably, he's been on the ice for 13 of the 16 goals the Hawks have scored this month.

Sometimes Scoring First is Scoring Best

All four Waterloo Black Hawks victories this season have been in games when the Hawks have scored the first goal. Conversely, Waterloo is 0-6-0 when the opposing team notches the first tally. J.T. Brown leads the Black Hawks with three "first goals" this season.

More Diverse Defensive Scoring

Entering last weekend, Zach Palmquist's three goals and seven assists accounted for ten of the 14 points recorded by Black Hawks defensemen. Saturday Matt Kinman joined Palmquist and Blake Thompson as the only Waterloo defensemen to score goals so far in 2009-2010. Kinman also recorded an assist on the goal Brock Montpetit scored to open Friday's game.

Half Dozen with Des Moines

This Saturday features the first of six games this season between the Waterloo Black Hawks and Des Moines Buccaneers. In 2008-2009 the Hawks and Buccaneers met eight times as USHL Eastern Division rivals. For the current schedule, Des Moines has been shifted to the Western Division, however, since the Hawks and Bucs are considered regional rivals, they will still meet each other more times than any team in their respective divisions. Waterloo plays five times against each Eastern Division opponent this year.
