Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Partial to Pavs

Scott Pavelski scored his second shorthanded goal of the season Saturday. The Black Hawks have just three as a team and were tied for the fewest in the USHL prior to last weekend. Pavelski will try to become the first Black Hawk in more than three years to have three shorthanded goals in a season. The last Waterloo player to do it was David Meckler in 2004-2005. The current league-leader in shorthanded scores is Eric Meland of the Lincoln Stars, who has four.

Half-Season Between Shootouts

The Black Hawks topped Sioux Falls 3-2 in a shootout Saturday, the first occasion Waterloo has played past the end of overtime in 30 games. The contest was Waterloo's third shootout of the season; the club is now 2-1. Across the league, shootouts have been relatively rare this season. Neither Lincoln nor Tri City has been involved in one, while Omaha leads the league with just five.

Pryor Arrival

Nick Pryor appeared in his first game Saturday after being acquired from the Des Moines Buccaneers for Michael Fink. As a member of the Bucs, he generated six goals and twelve assists in 31 games. Pryor started the game Saturday with Patrick Wey. For the evening, he was -1, with one shot on goal and two penalty minutes. The Woodbury, Minnesota native is committed to Maine.

Whittling Away At the West

The Black Hawks are now 13-3-0 against the Western Division, close to matching last season's 15 non-divisional victories. However, the Hawks aren't likely to reach 21 wins versus the West, as they did in 2002-2003. Since the league was not evenly divided that season, Waterloo played 36 games outside their division.
