SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The American Hockey League has announced that the telecast of the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Assante Wealth Management will reach more than 100 million households on Sportsnet ONE in Canada and on a comprehensive network of television partners in the United States.
Rockford IceHogs fans can watch Tuesday's Skills Competition featuring IceHogs center Brandon Pirri, on Antenna TV (23.2) in the Rockford market beginning at 5:30 p.m. Pirri is making his second career AHL All-Star Classic appearance.
Produced in high definition by Sportsnet, live broadcasts of the event will air Tuesday, Feb. 11 for the AHL All-Star Skills Competition and Wednesday, Feb. 12 for the AHL All-Star Game. Coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. each night from Mile One Centre in St. John's, N.L., with Sportsnet's team of Rob Faulds (host/rinkside), R.J. Broadhead (play-by-play) and Sam Cosentino (analyst) on the call.
Sportsnet ONE will have coverage of the AHL All-Star Classic across Canada, and the league's showcase event will also be seen throughout the United States on NHL Network as well as more than 25 regional networks, including the New England Sports Network; Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, CSN Mid-Atlantic, CSN Chicago, CSN Northwest and CSN California; MSG Network, serving the New York City metro area and upstate New York; Root Sports in Pittsburgh; Fox Sports' Detroit, Ohio, North, Midwest, Southwest, Oklahoma and Arizona affiliates; and Altitude Sports and Entertainment, which reaches viewers across 10 states in and around the Rocky Mountains.
Time Warner Cable customers in New York state, the Carolinas, Wisconsin, Kansas City, Texas and southern California will get to see the AHL All-Star Classic on their local TWC sports channels. Florida viewers will be able to catch it on Sun Sports and the Bright House Sports Network, and My Network TV in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (WQMY-TV) and Antenna TV in Rockford, Ill. (WIFR-TV 23.2) will also air the event for local AHL fans.
In addition, the two-day event will be streamed worldwide via AHL Live (ahllive.com) free of charge.
The 2014 AHL All-Star Classic will mark the first time ever that a Swedish Hockey League team has competed in North America. Founded in 1932 and based in the city of Karlstad, Sweden, FÃÆÃ¤rjestad BK - led by team CEO HÃÆÃÂ¥kan Loob - is one of the most successful franchises in all of European hockey, playing in 19 league finals and winning nine Swedish league championships, including four since 2002.
The 2014 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Assante Wealth Management will be the 20th edition of the modern AHL All-Star event, and the first to feature an international opponent. Of the 630 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since the event was reinstated in 1995, more than 93 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including Patrice Bergeron, Daniel Briere, Ryan Callahan, Zdeno Chara, Jimmy Howard, Niklas Kronwall, Chris Kunitz, Ryan Miller, Zach Parise, Tuukka Rask, Pekka Rinne, Bobby Ryan, Martin St. Louis, Cory Schneider, Patrick Sharp, Jason Spezza and Eric Staal.
Next Home Game: Friday, Feb. 14 vs. Chicago Wolves. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The IceHogs take on their I-90 rival, the Chicago Wolves, in a Valentine's Day clash. The contest will be another Illinois Lottery Cup matchup.
