October 10, 2011 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Washington Stealth News Release
Everett, Wash. - The Washington Stealth has re-signed defenseman Chris McElroy and forward Craig Conn for the 2012 season, pending approval by the National Lacrosse League. The long-time NLL vets were instrumental in the Stealth's success in 2011, as the team won its second straight Western Division title. Both McElroy and Conn will be entering their eighth NLL season and second with the Stealth.
McElroy originally signed with the Stealth as a free agent prior to the 2011 season. The Orillia, Ontario native played in 12 regular season games and all three postseason contests. He recorded a pair of assists, 22 loose balls and 41 penalty minutes during the regular season. Prior to joining the Stealth, McElroy played five seasons with the Edmonton Rush. He was named Rush captain in 2007, he enjoyed career highs in goals (8) and points (14) and a year later set a career high with 101 loose balls. The left-handed defenseman has appeared in 84 games throughout his career, accumulating 18 goals and 23 assists for 41 points and 341 loose balls.
"Chris was a great fit for us last season both on and off the floor," said Stealth General Manager Doug Locker. "He is a tremendous leader and plays with unrivaled grit and passion for the game. We expect big things from him this year and we are very excited to have him back in 2012."
Conn joined the Stealth two games into the 2011 season as a free agent. The right-handed forward tallied 12 goals and 21 assists for 33 points in 14 regular season games. Conn has played for six teams throughout his career, with stops in Vancouver, Arizona, Minnesota, Toronto and Calgary. He's played in 98 career regular season games, amassing 331 points (149g, 182a) and 554 loose balls. With Arizona in 2006, Conn tallied a career-high 44 goals and added 23 assists. He followed that up with a career-high 76 points (21g, 55a) in 2007.
"Craig did a great job for us when he was called upon following injuries to our offense," said Locker. "He solidified himself in our lineup because he plays every shift with a tremendous amount of intensity and does whatever it takes to help our team. Having him in training camp this season will be huge for our offense and the entire team will benefit."
McElroy, Conn and the rest of the Stealth begin play in the 2012 season on January 14 against the Calgary Roughnecks at the Comcast Arena at Everett. Season tickets for the 2012 campaign start at just $99 and are available by calling 877-MY-75-TIX or at www.stealthlax.com.
