Washington Spirit Midfielder Paige Metayer Named June Rookie of the Month, Presented by Ally
July 6, 2023 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release
NEW YORK - The National Women's Soccer League announced today that Washington Spirit midfielder Paige Metayer has been named Rookie of the Month, presented by Ally, for the month of June by the NWSL Media Association and the NWSL's on-air broadcast talent.
Signing her first pro contract with the Spirit ahead of the 2023 season after a successful stint as a non-roster invitee, Metayer made her presence known in the midfield throughout the month of June. In five games played, the midfielder recorded 82 successful passes and 12 shot-creating actions.
On June 10th, the Irvine, California native notched her first career assist in a 2-1 win against Angel City FC. The following week, Metayer scored her third goal of the regular season in a 3-2 road win against the Kansas City Current, notching the game-tying tally en route to the club's comeback victory.
With a trio of goals in 13 regular season matches, Metayer is tied for the league scoring lead among NWSL rookies.
The NWSL Rookie of the Month presented by Ally is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis, and the NWSL's on-air broadcast talent.
