
Washington Spirit Midfielder Marissa Sheva Called Up To Ireland Women's National Team

Washington, D.C. - Washington Spirit midfielder Marissa Sheva has been called up to the Ireland Women's National Team, the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) announced today. Sheva, whose Irish heritage comes from her mother, is earning the nod as a forward. This will be Sheva's first-ever senior international call-up.
Ireland will hold a ten-day training camp in Marbella, Spain during the February international window in which the Spirit has five other players taking part in the SheBelieves Cup, four with the U.S. and one with Canada. On Wednesday, February 22 Ireland takes on China at Estadio Nuevo Mirador in Algeciras. Competing in Group B at this summer's 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, Ireland will face host nation Australia as well as Canada and Nigeria in Sydney, Perth and Brisbane, respectively.
Through her first season with the Spirit, Sheva has tallied 302 minutes of action over eight matches played, including two full-90 outings during last summer's international window. In four seasons at Penn State, Sheva totaled 13 goals, nine assists and over 5,200 minutes of playing time in 92 appearances. Prior to her college career, Sheva was a member of the U14 and U15 U.S. Women's Youth National Teams.
