Washington, D.C. - The Washington Spirit has named Kate Greenberg as its new Vice President of Marketing and Communications. Working closely with President of Business Operations Emma May, Greenberg will lead team business functions including marketing and content, communications, community relations, fan experience and match operations.
"We are so excited to have Kate join our club," said May. "Kate brings extensive experience and expertise that will be invaluable as we continue to grow. An established leader with strong ties to the DC region, she is the perfect person to lead our marketing team during an important rebuilding time for our club."
Greenberg joins the Spirit after a successful tenure as Chief Marketing and Development Officer for Washington Nationals Philanthropies, the official charitable arm of the Washington Nationals. In this role, Greenberg led all marketing and fundraising initiatives for the organization and its signature program, the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.
Under her leadership, the organization underwent an extensive rebranding, distributed over 105 grants to area nonprofits valued at $1.79M and increased fan engagement in fundraising initiatives by more than 725%.
"The Washington sports market is the District of Champions, and the Spirit is no exception," Greenberg said. "Owner Michele Kang has a clear vision to deliver excellence on and off the field, propelling the club to the height of women's professional sports in both sporting and business operations. I am eager to work alongside Michele and Emma to deliver this vision."
Prior to the Nationals, Greenberg held executive leadership positions at the Trust for the National Mall and Hill + Knowlton Strategies. While at the Trust for the National Mall, Greenberg oversaw strategy, branded content, event marketing, strategic partnerships, public affairs and influencer marketing. During her time at Hill + Knowlton, she served as the U.S. lead for the firm's sports marketing and sponsorship practice working with clients including the New York City Football Club, City Football Group and adidas Basketball. Additionally, Greenberg has held roles with the Walt Disney Company, MS&L PR and Weber Shandwick.
