Washington Spirit News Release
BOYDS, MD. (Mar. 16, 2015) - The Washington Spirit enter the second week of preseason with an updated preseason roster. The team will end the week on Saturday playing Virginia Tech at 7 PM at Maureen Hendricks Field.
The Spirit signed Spanish forward Laura del Rio last week to bolster the team's attack. Del Rio holds a green card and will not take up an international spot. Also arriving last week is Chilean forward Yanara Aedo. Aedo will participate in preseason and train with the pro team, but has signed with the Spirit Reserves.
Also added to the roster this week is goalkeeper Che Brown and Emily Lillard. Brown trained with the team last week, but was mistakenly omitted from the roster press release last week. Lillard was unavailable for training last week and started with the team on Monday.
On Saturday the team will face Virginia Tech, their first opponent of the preseason. Virginia Tech finished the 2014 season with an impressive 16-6 in the highly competitive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Hokies earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament, but went out in the Round of 16 to Penn State.
The game kicks off at 7 PM at Maureen Hendricks Field. All media planning to attend should e-mail media@washingtonspirit.com.
