Winston-Salem Dash News Release

Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem Warthogs (5-3) starting catcher Donny Lucy was sick and unable to start, but Cole Armstrong filled in nicely, as he hit the game-winning RBI double in the tenth inning to give the Warthogs a 4-3 win over Salem. Salem scored three runs in the second inning by taking advantage of two walks, two errors and two hits to take an early 3-0 lead. Avalanche starting pitcher Chad Reineke was nearly untouchable, as he held the Warthogs scoreless until the seventh inning. Winston-Salem was finally able to get to Reineke, when Victor Mercedes, Chris Amador and Josh Hansen collected RBI singles in the seventh to tie the game at three. Michael Moat (4-3) pitched four hitless innings of relief to maintain the tie until the dramatics in the tenth inning. A two-out walk to David Cook led to the RBI double by Armstrong to give Winston-Salem a 4-3 lead. The next batter, Sean Smith singled to center and Armstrong tried to score from second, but was gunned down at the plate after a collision with Salem catcher Jeff Mackor. Dewon Day collected his fourth save of the year and second in the past two days to preserve the Warthogs second one-run win over Salem in consecutive nights. The final game of the series will take place at 7 PM on Friday in Salem, Virginia. Taking the mound for Winston-Salem will be LHP Wes Whisler and he will face Avalanche RHP Felipe Paulino. The game will be broadcast live on www.warthogs.com.
