
Warthogs 1B Brandon Allen Promoted to Double-A Birmingham

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem Warthogs first baseman Brandon Allen has been promoted to Double-A Birmingham. The left-handed slugger hit .279 with 15 home runs and 44 RBI in 89 games for Winston-Salem this season. His 15 round-trippers and 45 extra-base hits are good for second in the Carolina League.
Allen, who was named as the starting first baseman on the Carolina League All-Star team, is currently fourth in the league with 26 doubles and a .527 slugging percentage.
The highlight of his season was hitting for the cycle, while going 5-for-5 on May 14 against Lynchburg. He also scored four times, smacked two doubles and added two RBI.
Allen was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round of the 2004 draft out of Montgomery High School in Texas. Prior to this season, he was listed by Baseball America as the Best Power Hitter in the White Sox organization.
The Winston-Salem Warthogs open a three-game series against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans this evening at Ernie Shore Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
