
Warriors Fall to D-Fenders

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The NBA D-League Champion Santa Cruz Warrior (9-6) were defeated by the Los Angeles D-Fenders (8-7) 104-82 on Tuesday at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
Verdell Jones III led Santa Cruz with 16 points. Juwan Staten posted 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Daniel Orton added 12 points.
Tarik Black, on assignment from the Los Angeles Lakers, paced the D-Fenders with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Ryan Kelly, also playing on assignment from the Lakers, scored 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Andre Ingram and Justin Hawkins added 15 points apiece.
Los Angeles would open the game on a 20-8 run to end the first quarter with a 10 point advantage. The D-Fenders would continue to dominate in the second quarter, extending their lead by as many as 24 points. Santa Cruz would enter the locker room trailing by 20 points.
The D-Fenders would remain in control out of the break, entering the final frame with an 86-69 lead. Santa Cruz would make one final push to come within seven points of Los Angeles in the fourth quarter, ultimately falling to the D-Fenders 104-82.
