SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The defending NBA D-League Champion Santa Cruz Warriors (18-29) were defeated by the Austin Spurs (27-20) 98-72 at Kaiser Permanente Arena Sunday night in front of a capacity crowd. The Spurs would open the game on a 21-0 run behind eleven consecutive points from Keifer Sykes, keeping the Warriors scoreless for the first seven minutes of play. Austin would shoot 64% from the field in the frame, entering the second quarter owning a 38-13 advantage.

The Spurs would extend their lead to as many as 37 points in the second quarter, outshooting Santa Cruz (60%-35%) to enter the halftime break leading 63-31.

Austin would continue to control the scoreboard coming out of the locker room, keeping a minimum of a 29-point distance from Santa Cruz in the third quarter. Both teams would score 22 points apiece in the third period, with Austin closing out the frame leading by 32 points.

The Warriors would cut the deficit to 26 points by the final minute of the fourth quarter, ultimately dropping to the Spurs 98-72.

The Spurs would outshoot the Warriors (49%-29%), grab more boards (64-35), and dish out more assists (29-19) in the victory.

In honor of their commitment to "green" initiatives, the Warriors, along with Allterra Solar and Big Creek Lumber, will team up again for the "Threes for Trees" collaboration during the final home game of the regular season. When the Warriors host the Reno Bighorns on Wednesday March 30 at 7:00 p.m. PST at Kaiser Permanente Arena, the amount of three-pointers made by both teams will be recorded. The collective effort will result in planting three times as many trees as three-point shots made in the game vs. the Bighorns.
