Wardogs unveil secondary logo

Columbus Wardogs News Release

Columbus, GA - The Columbus arenafootball2 team will have a new and slicker look when the Wardogs take the field for the 2004 season. The team has introduced a secondary logo which will be featured on the players' helmets and jersey sleeves.

The menacing dog is still featured, but without a football and without the large capital "C" in the background.

"We are slightly limited with our primary logo in that the dog can face only one way. If we try to reverse our primary logo, then the C is backwards," explained team president and general manager Mike Sammond. "By using this secondary logo, we can now have the dog facing towards the front on both sides of the helmets and both jersey sleeves."

While the team's current logo will still be the primary mark on most of the team's materials, the idea of adding a secondary logo was hatched by head coach John Fourcade.

"This team is moving forward and this gives us a bit of a fresh start," said Fourcade. "By eliminating the football, the dog appears even more menacing and ready to attack. That's a dog you don't want to mess with, and we're going to be a team that opponents won't want to mess with."

The team's helmets and jerseys will undergo some other style changes and will be unveiled on Sunday, March 28 when the Wardogs host Australia in an international preseason game at the Columbus Civic Center. Kickoff is at 3:00pm ET and tickets are now available at the Civic Center box office, by calling (706) 494-8330 or by logging on to ticketmaster.com.
