Manchester Wolves News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. (February 23, 2004) - The arenafootball2 league office announced today that linemen Rod Kelly, Jabari Beauford and David Carter have been assigned to the Manchester Wolves. All three players excelled at the collegiate level and hope to do the same with the Wolves in 2004.
The Wolves, New Hampshire's newest professional football team, now have 23 players on their training camp roster. Training camp begins on Thursday, March 18.
"I'm pretty excited about the potential of this group of big guys," Wolves Head Coach Rik Richards said. "They make us a much stronger team up front without question."
Kelly, a 6-4, 275-pound native of Houston, TX, played mainly at defensive end during his two-year career at Northeastern State (Oklahoma). He was a two-time All-Lone Star Conference first-team selection (1999, 2000) with the Redmen, registering 125 career tackles and 35 tackles for loss, including 13 sacks. Kelly was also named a Super Sleeper Team selection in 2000 by The NFL Draft Report. After excelling in college, Kelly signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Washington Redskins (2001) and Miami Dolphins (2002). Originally drafted as a pitcher out of high school, Kelly decided upon football and spent two years at Trinity Valley (TX) Junior College, earning JUCO All-American honors in 1997 and 1998.
Beauford is another Houston native who is looking to make an impact with the Wolves in his rookie af2 season. The 6-3,
295-pound Beauford started 29 games over his four-year playing career at the University of Houston. As a senior in 2001, he earned team captain duties and allowed just one sack in six starts at right tackle prior to a season-ending ankle injury. He also enjoyed a stellar junior season as well, allowing only one sack in 11 starts. Beauford graduated from Houston in 2002 with a degree in human nutrition and foods.
Carter, a 6-2, 250-pound native of Philadelphia, PA, saw action at linebacker as a collegian at West Virginia University. In three seasons with the Mountaineers, Carter registered 83 total tackles, nine tackles for loss and three sacks. Carter's senior campaign was by far his most impressive as he started all 11 games in which he appeared and tallied 53 total tackles, six tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
