Harrisburg Senators News Release

Zach Walters had three hits and scored two runs on Tuesday night as the Senators beat Altoona 8-3. It was the second straight win for the Senators, their first back-to-back wins since they won four straight in early June. The Sens had 15 hits with six different Senators' hitters having at least two. Coupled with the nine runs on Monday in New Hampshire, it was their biggest two-game output since the third and fourth games of the season when they scored 18 in two games against Bowie.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Harrisburg three runs on five hits with all of the damage coming with two-outs and no one on base. Justin Bloxom, Destin Hood and Sean Nicol all had two-out run scoring singles in the opening frame.

The Senators tacked on a run in the second on another rbi single by Bloxom. After Altoona scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, the Senators came up with three in the bottom of the inning.

Tim Pahuta had an rbi single and Kris Watts followed with a two-run double to cap the scoring.

Both teams used five pitchers in the game with the Senators' start Austin Bibens-Dirkx going the first four and allowing a run on three hits. Rob Gilliam followed, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing two runs on three hits. Zech Zinicola, who earned the win, went 1.2 innings including pitching out of a first and third one-out jam in the sixth inning. Pat McCoy started the eighth, but after retiring the first two batters he allowed two hits and a walk and he was done. Hector Nelo pitched out of the bases loaded jam in the eighth and followed with a scoreless ninth to earn his eighth save on the season.

The 2011 top pick in the draft, Gerrit Cole, started for Altoona but lasted just one inning. He allowed five hits and three runs in his inning of work and took the loss.

Game two of the four-game series is Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website and on all mobile devices through the iHeart Radio app beginning with the pregame show at 11:40 a.m.
