Binghamton, NY - The Bowie Baysox (37-39) had five players record double digit hits on Tuesday night as they thrashed the Binghamton Mets (36-39) 10-1.

Manny Machado and Robbie Widlansky each hit home runs while Josh Barfield and Rhyne Hughes added three hits a piece.

Machado got the Baysox off to the quick start in the bottom of the first inning. After Jonathan Schoop and Barfield singled, Machado hit a three-run home run to give the Baysox a 3-0 lead.

The Baysox added another run in the third inning. Schoop started the inning by reaching on an error and went to second on a balk. Barfield followed with his second hit of the game that put runners on the corners. Then Widlansky grounded into a fielders choice that allowed Schoop to score to make the score 4-0.

In the sixth, the Baysox broke the game open with a three-run inning. Widlansky started the inning with a solo home run, his fourth of the season. Then with one out, Hughes singled and scored on a double by Buck Britton. The next batter, Zelous Wheeler singled to put runners at the corners and Allan de San Miguel hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 7-0.

The Baysox added three more runs in the seventh. With the bases loaded and one out, Britton hit a two-run double to score Widlansky and Machado. Then with the bases loaded back up and two outs, Antoan Richardson singled to score Britton and extend the lead to 10-0.

Eric Campbell gave the B-Mets their lone run of the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh that cut the lead to 10-1.

In his 2012 Baysox debut, Rick Zagone tossed seven innings of one run ball. He allowed just three hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Cory Mazzoni got the loss going six innings and allowing seven runs, six earned on 10 hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Tomorrow in game two of the series RHP Tim Bascom (3-5, 4.26) will make the start against RHP Gonzalez German (4-4, 3.72).

The Baysox are on the road for eight games. They will return home on Wednesday, July 4 at 6:05 p.m. against the Harrisburg Senators. Tickets are on sale now for the Independence Day celebration that will feature an apple pie eating contest, fireworks and much more.
