Walmart Foundation Donates Gulls Tickets for Father-Son Game

Newport, R.I. - Fathers and sons share a special bond, and for many that connection is strengthened by baseball. Thanks to the Newport Gulls and the Walmart Foundation, scores of father-son duos will get to enjoy a baseball game free of charge on July 31 at Cardines Field.
The Walmart Foundation provided the opportunity through a grant for Sunday's Gulls game against Sanford thanks to the efforts of Newport's Walmart. The Gulls organization is proud to be able to recognize the special role baseball has in the bonding between fathers and sons at the game.
The Walmart Foundation, an organization which strives to provide opportunities that improve the lives of individuals in communities around the nation, has a particular interest in supporting veterans and military families, as well as traditionally underserved groups, the disabled community, and people impacted by natural disasters.
Newport's Walmart store, located at 199 Connell Highway, and its management recognized the community significance of Newport Gulls baseball and was able to secure the grant to help fill Cardines Field with deserving fathers and sons.
Father-Son Night is one of two events being celebrated by the Gulls on Sunday. The organization will also recognize its workers with Volunteer Appreciation Night. In addition, New England Veterinary Specialists is also donating 250 free sets of baseball cards featuring the 2011 Gulls.
The Gulls, comfortably leading the NECBL Eastern Division, are once again averaging over 2,000 fans per home game and look forward to continued support from the community as they near the end of the regular season and prepare for the playoff push, looking for their fifth NECBL championship.
In addition to the 1,250 tickets donated by the Walmart Foundation, many more tickets will be available at the Cardines Field box office at 5 p.m. Newport will take on Sanford at 6:35 p.m.
