
Walla Walla Takes Series with Pippins on Late Offensive Burst

Yakima, WASH - The Walla Walla Sweets (12-9) scored late to preserve a lead in a 7-2 win over the Yakima Valley Pippins (12-9) on Sunday afternoon. The win gave the Sweets the series victory and a 5-1 road trip.
The Sweets scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Willie MacIver (Washington), before the Pippins tied it in the bottom half of the first.
Yakima Valley then took the lead in the third against Sweets starter Bobby Ay (Cal Poly).
The Sweets tied it at two in the fifth on a suicide squeeze by Ryan Johnston (UC Irvine) and they took the lead in the seventh on an RBI single by Jarren Duran (Long Beach State).
Walla Walla added in the eighth when MacIver scored on an error by the Pippin's shortstop Christian Koss (UC Irvine).
The big inning was the ninth for the Sweets. They scored three runs to increase the lead to 7-2.
Both teams combined for six errors on the day, three for each side. Over the last two games, there were 15 errors committed.
Ay picked up his first win on the season for the Sweets and only allowed one earned run in seven innings. He also struck out five and only walked one.
Walla Walla is back at home tomorrow to start a six game home-stand. The Bend Elks will be the first to visit Borleske stadium and the Sweets will send Easton Lucas (Pepperdine) to the hill for game one.
