
Walla Walla Take Bend Series to End the First Half Sweetly

Walla Walla, Wa- Sweets pitching shut down the number one offense in the West Coast League with a 6-2 win in game three against Bend. The win gave the Sweets the series win and it was Bend's first series loss.
Walla Walla started off the scoring in the third with an RBI single by Myles Hager. They then tacked on another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Connor Kopach to make the score 2-0.
They would continue to add insurance runs with two more in the sixth and another one in the seventh and eighth. Dyllin Mucha hit a two-run double in the sixth and Kyle Dozier added another run with a double in the seventh. In the eighth, Hager hit his second RBI single of the game to make the score 6-0 Sweets.
The pitching was spectacular for the Sweets. Bend came in as the number one scoring offense in the West Coast League and they were held scoreless through eight innings on four hits. Jared Zill started and gave the Sweets two scoreless before Travis Ulvestad came in for three solid frames as well. They were followed by Trevin Haseltine and Cameron Richman who combined for three more scoreless before Juan Gamez gave up two in the ninth.
This was a big win for the Sweets as they head into All-Star break at 18-18 and two games back in the wild card.
They will be back at home for their first game of the second half against Kelowna on Tuesday. The All-Star game will be broadcast on ESPN Walla Walla and Ryan Rouillard (the Pippins' broadcaster) and Zach Bigley will team up to bring it to you.
