Walla Walla Represents Well in All-Star Day

July 21, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Walla Walla Sweets News Release

Bellingham, Wa- In a beautiful day for baseball and in front of 1985 in Bellingham, the Sweets had four players that made an impact on the West Coast League's version of the Mid-Summer Classic.

Kyle Nixon was the first to appear in the blue and white as he competed in the home run derby. He ended up finishing third with two home runs after advancing to the second round, and narrowly missing the final. In the game, he led-off and finished 0-2 in the game while playing right field.

Nixon was joined on the position player side by teammate Parker Coss. Coss also got the start in the field, playing second, and had success at the plate, going 1-2 with a walk. He also nearly made a spectacular diving play in the hole between first and second in which he knocked the ball down, but could not recover in time to throw the runner out at first.

On the pitching side for the Sweets, Micah Gorman took the hill in the third and gave up a run on two hits. Easton Lucas also pitched and gave up an unearned run in an inning of work and struck-out two.

The South won the game 3-0 over the North. Both teams picked up five hits, but the North committed two errors. Jake Scudder (Kitsap) took home MVP honors for his 2-3 performance.

The Sweets come home for a big series starting tomorrow against Kelowna. The Falcons lead the division by four games over Yakima Valley and they are up six on Walla Walla.
