
Voyagers Pitch Second Shutout for Series Win

Great Falls, MT - The Voyagers pitching staff only surrendered four base hits in a series-clinching 1-0 shutout victory over Rocky Mountain Thursday night at Centene Stadium. Great Falls (8-8, 23-30) claims the series 3-to-1, and wins five of eight against Rocky Mountain in the regular season. The Voyagers close out the home stand with a 5-2 record, and improved to 15-13 at home. They finish 9-6 against the South Division this season. Great Falls has won five of its last six games. The Vibes (7-10, 24-31) fell to 13-17 on the road. They went 7-9 against the North.
The only run necessary for the Voyagers scored in the bottom of the fourth. Caberea Weaver led off the inning with a double banged high off the wall in deep left. Weaver later went to third on a single to center by Harvin Mendoza. Weaver then scored on a high sacrifice fly to left-center off the bat of Luis Curbelo.
The Great Falls pitching staff finished the game retiring 11 consecutive Rocky Mountain batters. Nate Pawelczyk picked up the win in relief. Pawelczyk (2-0) went two innings and gave up just one hit with two strikeouts and one walk. Brock Begue took the loss for the Vibes. Begue (1-4) lasted five innings in his start and allowed one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts. Caleb Freeman notched his first Pioneer League save by striking out the side in the ninth. Voyagers' starter Chase Solesky worked four innings and yielded three hits with five strikeouts. The staff struck out 11 with just one walk on the night.
The Voyagers outhit the Vibes 7-to-4. The game only took two hours and 12 minutes, the second fastest of the season for Great Falls. Harvin Mendoza and Ivan Gonzalez both went 2-for-3. Jose Sibrian collected two hits for Rocky Mountain.
