
Voyagers Fall to Billings in Extras Again

Great Falls, MT - The Voyagers extra-inning woes continued with a 6-4 series-opening loss in 12 innings to Billings Wednesday night at Centene Stadium.
Great Falls (23-22, 1-6) is now 5-4 against the Mustangs in the season series. The Voyagers dropped to 16-8 at home, and are now 1-6 in extra-inning games. Billings (21-24, 6-1) has won eight of its last nine, and improved to 7-13 on the road. The Mustangs are 3-1 in extras this season, with back-to-back wins over Great Falls in that fashion.
After Billings opened the game with a run in the top of the 1st, the Voyagers took an early lead with two in the home half. Ramon Beltre led off with a double lined into left-center. Lenyn Sosa followed with an infield single. A one-out RBI single to left by Amado Nunez tied the game. A sacrifice fly high in the air to left-center from Adam McGinnis gave Great Falls a 2-1 lead.
The Voyagers made it 3-1 with a mark in the 2nd. Jhoandro Alfaro led off with a double to shallow right-center on a high pop fly. Alfaro advanced to third on a groundout and then scored on a sacrifice line drive to right by Ramon Beltre.
Billings closed the gap with a run in the 6th and broke even with another in the 8th. Pabel Manzanero led off the 6th with a base hit to right. Two wild pitches pushed Manzanero to third. A Dylan Harris RBI groundout made it 3-2. Jay Schuyler started the 8th with a walk. Mariel Bautista then doubled up the left field line. Manzanero tied the game with an RBI single to left-center.
Both sides scored runs in the 10th to keep the game alive. Billings then surged ahead for good with a two-run top of the 12th. A sacrifice bunt moved the base runner from second to third. After Zeek White walked, Jay Schuyler broke the tie with an RBI single to left. White later scored on a wild pitch for the second run of the inning.
Great Falls outhit Billings 11-to-10. Amado Nunez posted three singles with an RBI. Jhoandro Alfaro also had three hits with one run scored. Ramon Beltre went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Four Mustangs registered two-hit games. Zeek White scored three runs. Jay Schuyler drove in two.
Eddy Demurias earned the win in relief. Demurias (1-2) went three innings to finish the game and gave up a run on one hit with two strikeouts and one walk. Michael McCormick took the loss. McCormick (4-1) pitched one inning in relief and allowed two runs on one hit with two strikeouts and one walk. The Voyagers received a good start from Matt Portland. Portland lasted five and yielded just one earned run on four hits with a season-high eight strikeouts and two walks.
Great Falls finishes its brief two-game home series with Billings Thursday night at Centene Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7 o'clock. Gates open at 6. The Voyagers then play a three-game weekend series at Missoula Friday through Sunday before the three-day all-star break.
