Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GRAND JUNCTION - The Great Falls Voyagers (29-29, 5-15) were scorched by an early rush from the Grand Junction Rockies (31-27, 10-10) and weren't able to make any comeback headway as they fell 10-1 Saturday night at Suplizio Field. With one remaining game on their road trip, the Voyagers are 4-4 on the sojourn.
After going down scoreless against Jayson Aquino (2-0) in the first, the Voyagers and starter Chris Beck (2-2) started taking immediate body-blows in the bottom half. The first five Rockies all reached base and Julian Yan capped the four-run rally with a two-run double to left for a 4-0 Rockies lead. Yan added two more RBI in the third by blasting his league-leading fifteenth home run of the season.
The Voyagers were able to bring across an unearned run against Aquino in the second when Ashley Graeter made consecutive errors at third base, but Aquino was otherwise totally untouchable. Finishing seven innings, the Voyagers managed just three singles off the lefty while he struck out six. After Yan's homer, the Rockies added an unearned run in the seventh and three more runs in the eighth to stretch their lead out of the Voyagers reach at 10-1. The Voyagers had a number of runners on base in the game, including the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth, but left 12 on base and fell. The left on base numbers were deceiving, however, as the Voyagers had no runners advance safely past first between the second and eighth innings when the game was still in doubt.
The Voyagers can split the four game set in Grand Junction and lock-in a winning road trip with a win Sunday afternoon at Suplizio Field. The afternoon game features a marquee pitching matchup as Eddie Butler starts for the Rockies against Voyager JC Casey. Butler is third in the Pioneer League in ERA and Casey is fifth. The game starts at 2:05 PM and can be heard on ESPN Montana 99.9 FM.
