
Voyagers Beat Rockies to Finish First-Half

Grand Junction, CO - The Voyagers scored four times in the 4th inning and the pitching staff matched a season-high with 14 strikeouts in a 6-3 win over the Rockies Tuesday night at Suplizio Field.
Great Falls (22-16) snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 7-12 on the road this season. Grand Junction (20-18) had its six-game winning streak stopped. The Rockies won three of four in the series and claimed four of seven in the season series with the Voyagers. Both teams are now 9-5 against the other division.
Grand Junction opened the scoring for a third straight game with a two-run 2nd. Grant Lavigne tripled to lead off the inning. With one out, John Cresto walked. An RBI groundout by Jeff Moberg brought in the first run. A two-out RBI double off the wall in left by Franklin Garcia made it 2-0.
Great Falls took the lead for good with two home runs in the 4th. Amado Nunez led off with a single to center. Adam McGinnis followed with a double. Alex Destino then crushed a three-run homer deep to right-center that soared past the scoreboard and gave the Voyagers the lead. It was Destino's fourth of the season. With two outs, Jhoandro Alfaro blasted a drive deep to left for a solo home run and a 4-2 advantage.
The Voyagers made it 5-2 with a run in the 5th. Travis Moniot reached base with a one-out triple to deep center. Amado Nunez drove in Moniot with a double on a line drive to the alley in left-center. The Rockies cut the lead to 5-3 with a mark in the 6th. Great Falls finished the scoring with a tally in the 7th. Moniot was hit by a pitch and later moved to second on an errant pick-off attempt at first. Adam McGinnis delivered the final RBI single to left.
Great Falls outhit Grand Junction 10-to-7. The two home runs gave the Voyagers 8 dingers in the series, and the two teams combined to hit 15 homers overall in the four games. Amado Nunez led the offense with three base hits.
Jack Maynard posted the win in relief. Maynard (2-1) worked two scoreless innings and gave up two hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Alfredo Garcia took the loss. Garcia lasted five and allowed five earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout. Nick Johnson earned his second save with three strikeouts over the final two innings. Devon Perez was solid in three innings of relief as well. Perez gave up one run on three hits with five strikeouts.
